Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway says her office is investigating complaints involving ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller, with concerns ranging from fantasy football leagues to charitable activities.
Hanaway confirmed to Missourinet that investigators are reviewing complaints from people who say they paid entry fees for fantasy football leagues connected to Miller but later had trouble collecting winnings or verifying charitable donations.
The complaints surfaced after Miller, a Joplin native, was seriously injured in a June 17 crash in Jasper County in southwest Missouri. The crash resulted in the amputation of his left arm, and a fundraising campaign was launched to support his recovery.
“Our hearts go out to Matt for this accident he’s had and the ramifications, including an amputation,” Hanaway said. “There have been, since the news of his accident, many more reports that have come into our office.”
Hanaway said investigators are still working to determine the full scope of the allegations.
“In this case, I don’t want to be overly specific, but obviously people are complaining about camps, about fantasy football leagues, about charities,” she said.
Hanaway said her office is encouraging anyone with relevant information to file a complaint. She noted that additional complaints can help investigators obtain records from payment platforms.
“And particularly if it involves Venmo or PayPal, the more people who’ve been affected by this, who make an official report to our office, the more leverage we have with those organizations to get records,” Hanaway said.
Miller has not publicly responded to the allegations. Missourinet reached out to Miller through social media channels, however, did not receive a response. No charges have been filed, and Hanaway said the investigation remains active.
