It’s been a wetter-than-normal spring in Missouri.
University of Missouri Extension Entomologist Emily Althoff says a wet spring typically means more mosquitoes in the summer because of stagnant water. She reminds property owners to get rid of water in old tires or other places that tend to be ideal habitats for mosquitoes. She also says that of the dozens of mosquito species considered a “nuisance,” the threat of West Nile virus remains a serious health concern, and she has a thought about which state has the largest mosquitoes.
