MU Health Care has reduced its staff by 74 people. The positions impacted are mostly non-clinical and administrative jobs.
According to a news release, the changes are part of a broader organizational redesign that reflects significant shifts in health care, including workforce dynamics, reimbursement pressures, patient expectations, and increasing operational challenges.
Effective August 1, MU Health will close three Quick Care locations at Hy-Vee stores in Columbia and one in Jefferson City will close. MU Health says it is instead expanding urgent care and other services to better meet patient needs.
“Health care is changing rapidly, and our organization must evolve with it,” said Ric Ransom, chief executive officer. “These decisions are difficult, but they are necessary to ensure MU Health Care remains strong, competitive and capable of serving patients and communities for generations to come.”
MU Health said employees impacted by the reductions received individualized support, including information about Transition Assistance Pay, benefits continuation, internal job opportunities and other transition resources. More than 500 jobs remain open.
MU Health said it is also proposing changes to certain employee benefit programs, including retirement contributions, holidays and paid time off. The proposal also includes enhancements such as dependent care assistance, expanded Employee Assistance Program counseling services and new fertility and adoption benefits.
The proposed changes are up to the University of Missouri Board of Curators. The board has a meeting scheduled for Thursday. The main topics are MU Health Care’s financials and an organizational update.
MU Health Care has a workforce of roughly 6,800 people.
