The University of Missouri Board of Curators has approved a three-year contract extension for Mizzou Athletic Director Laird Veatch.

Since taking over May 1, 2024, Veatch has guided the department through a period of major transformation. That includes record revenue growth, a significant reduction in the athletic department’s operating deficit, and increased investment in facilities and fan experience across multiple sports.

Under his direction, Mizzou has made steady progress on the Memorial Stadium Centennial Project, expanded premium seating options, and restructured its athletics fundraising efforts to better align donor support with program priorities. The department has also introduced new initiatives aimed at increasing revenue and enhancing the game-day experience.

Facility upgrades have been a major focus, including improvements at Memorial Stadium, new playing surfaces for soccer and baseball, a new outdoor track at Audrey J. Walton Stadium, and moving the gymnastics program into Mizzou Arena to elevate both fan and student-athlete experience.

On the field, Mizzou has seen consistent success over the past two years, with appearances in two football bowl games, two NCAA men’s basketball tournaments, and 20 NCAA team championship events. The Tigers have also produced four individual national champions and 38 All-Americans during that span.

Financially, the department reported a $14 million increase in revenue, reaching a record $182 million, while cutting its operating deficit by 40 percent.

University leadership says the extension reflects confidence in Veatch’s direction as Mizzou continues to build toward sustained success in the SEC.
