Strong storms that moved across Missouri early Monday morning left damage behind at two state prisons and across parts of central Missouri, including Randolph and Saline Counties.

The Missouri Department of Corrections says storms damaged the Farmington Correctional Center in southeast Missouri and the Moberly Correctional Center in north‑central Missouri. The agency reports no injuries, and both staff and inmates at the prisons are safe.

The department says both prisons remain operational, although movement is temporarily modified while damage assessments continue.

In Saline County, storms took out a grain bin, trees, and power lines. No injuries have been reported there.

Storm damage was also reported across Randolph County, where emergency leaders say the severe weather moved through around 7 a.m. Monday.

Randolph County Emergency Management Director David Gaines says the storms caused widespread damage.

“Strong storms knocked down several houses, multiple buildings, created a fire in one particular house that’s a total loss, and then moved off to the Middle Grove, Monroe County area,” Gaines said.

Emergency leaders say trees and power lines were down across multiple roadways. Missouri Route 3 near U.S. Route 24 was impacted earlier by a downed tree and power lines.

Gaines said the county was able to activate tornado sirens.

“We were able to activate our tornado siren and weather notification systems through cell phones throughout the area, which I think gave folks some advanced notice,” Gaines said. “We’re still at this time working on damage assessments.”

Cleanup efforts remain ongoing, primarily led by local agencies, with assistance from the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, which has had a representative assisting in the region.

Gaines says he has no information about injuries in Randolph County and hopes that remains the case.

As a precaution due to the severe weather, the Moberly School District held classes online Monday.

Damage assessments continue across the region as crews work to clear debris and restore affected areas.
