The western Missouri city of Clinton was roughed up a little by a tornado that touched down Wednesday evening.
Clinton Fire Chief Mark Manuel told Missourinet that there’s not a lot of damage and no reported injuries.
“There wasn’t a lot of damage,” Manuel said. “There is some minor to moderate damage to some individual residential and commercial structures in town. Most of the damage that we’re seeing through town is tree damage.”
But the tornado did destroy two buildings in town.
“Those were both unoccupied buildings that were being used for storage,” Manuel said.
National Weather Service workers were in Clinton Thursday assessing damage.
There was also minor damage to two schools, according to Clinton School District Superintendent Dan Brungardt.
“We did have some damage to Clinton Intermediate School, a little bit of damage to Henry Elementary School,” he said. “There’s also some water issues because the rain was so intense.”
The intermediate school (middle school) had more damage, thought it was still basically minor.
“We have air conditioning units, and some of those were moved, turned, and twisted,” Brungardt said. “We also have some solar panels up there through a grant, and those also were moved, turned, and twisted.”
Both campuses were closed Thursday to assess damage, with classes held online. But Brungardt told Missourinet that Friday will be “business as usual.”
