Barricades are up along several southwest Missouri roads, due to heavy rain that prompted flooding.
MoDOT Assistant SW District Engineer Cindy Dunnaway says there are three closures in Barton County and one in Polk County (as of Thursday, April 16th at 2pm). She notes crews will inspect the pavement of the roads once the water recedes.
Parts of Barton and Polk counties received over five inches of rain from Wednesday night into Thursday morning, prompting flooding along several locations.
The National Weather Service is predicting another round of storms Friday night, which could raise the risk of more flooding.
The flooding is also prompting flood safety reminders from MoDOT. Dunnaway reminds drivers that a vehicle can be swept away by just two feet of flood waters. She also notes the water hides pavement that may be damaged or washed away, and urges drivers to steer clear of flooded areas and obey barricades.
Dunnaway reminds drivers to check for the latest road closure updates on MoDOT.org.
