Many Missourians will head to the polls today for general municipal elections, with local measures and races dominating ballots across the state.

Sec. of State Denny Hoskins, R-Missouri, said what voters see will depend heavily on where they live.

🗳️ What’s on the Ballot?

Hoskins said the municipal elections are focused on local priorities, including taxes, public safety, and school governance.

“In Jefferson City, Proposition A — an infrastructure sales tax renewal,” he said. “In Columbia, several city council races and school board elections. In Kirksville and Adair County, voters are deciding on the construction of a new police station and two new fire stations.”

📋 Check Your Ballot Before You Go

Ballots can look very different from one community to the next. Hoskins recommends reviewing your choices ahead of time.

“They should have a sample ballot on there,” he said. “You can print that ballot off, look at the questions, even fill it out and take it with you into the polls after researching those different questions.”

🪪 What to Bring — and What to Leave at Home

Missouri law requires voters to present a valid photo ID, such as:

  • A driver’s license
  • A passport

Hoskins also reminds voters of one common mistake, “A lot of people forget you cannot wear any campaign material into the polls.”

That includes:

  • Candidate t‑shirts
  • Buttons
  • Hats or stickers supporting issues or candidates

“Please don’t wear a t‑shirt of your favorite city council member or school board candidate that you’ll be voting on,” Hoskins said.
