Operations are back to normal at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) following Sunday’s bomb threat.
Authorities evacuated passengers and employees from the airport for about two hours Sunday after the threat targeted the terminal and a parking garage, according to the Kansas City Aviation Department. Inbound flights were held on taxiways, and passengers inside the terminal were ordered to evacuate without explanation, while others stayed on planes during the disruption.
TV station KMBC interviewed several passengers at Kansas City International Airport on Sunday, including Ryan O’Neil and Madison Hummel.
“We were waiting to board our plane and all of a sudden they came on the speaker and they said, ‘we need everyone to evacuate immediately, everyone evacuate immediately,’” O’Neill said.
“Some of the girls sitting next to me were like listening to a police scanner and then obviously just like talking to our loved ones and see if they knew anything,” Hummel said.
After a thorough sweep, the threat was found to not be credible. FBI Director Kash Patel released the following statement on X:
An update on the earlier threat at Kansas City International Airport:@FBI and our law enforcement partners quickly responded to the scene and secured the area. The threat was reviewed and determined not to be credible. Terminal has been swept, cleared, and normal operations…
