New federal labor statistics show that 9.8% of Missouri’s wage and salary workers belonged to a union in 2025, placing the state just under the national union membership rate of 10%.

Missouri recorded an estimated 271,000 union members, according to state level data the U.S. Department of Labor cautions should be interpreted broadly due to small sample sizes.

Nationwide, 14.7 million workers were union members last year, a figure that remained largely unchanged from 2024.

Union membership rates varied widely across the country, ranging from below 5% in some states to nearly 25% in others.
