Two Mizzou School of Music professors are now Grammy Award winners after taking home one of the industry’s top honors earlier this month. Stefan Freund and Bill Kalinkos, founding members of the contemporary ensemble Alarm Will Sound, earned the award for their album “Land of Winter.”
Freund told Missourinet that their reaction when they learned they’d won was unforgettable.
“That’s us,” said Freund. “We won. So yeah, it was very exciting. We have a great reaction video. I remember I stood up, kissed my wife, hugged Bill and everybody else, and it was wonderful.”
Freund said it’s been wonderful bringing so much happiness and joy to the university.
“It’s the first Grammy Award associated with the University of Missouri,” said Freund.
Freund told Missourinet about what set the album apart from groups around the world competing for the award.
“It was a little bit of an unfair fight because we were in the chamber and small ensemble category and we are a chamber orchestra,” said Freund. “We have a conductor. So, we have a lot of firepower in our group. I think the album is just stunning.”
The album is available on all streaming platforms and on YouTube.
