Missouri Congressman Mark Alford calls the U.S. relationship with Iran “tenuous” and wants the leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to step down.

“The threat is there whether it’s nuclear or not. Iran in its current situation with the current regime in place is not a friend to pretty much anyone but the Houthis and maybe Hezbollah, the remnants that exist there. And of course, the remnants of Hamas, which is slowly dying out or giving up there in Gaza,” Alford said.

“I don’t see any way out of this without removing the head of the snake,” he added.

Alford said Iran is defiant even after a strike to their nuclear bunkers by B-2 bombers out of Whiteman Air Force Base. With the buildup of U.S. forces in the Middle East, Alford said we have reason to “take it to the next level.”

“They have missile capabilities that they can strike Israel, intercontinental ballistic missile technology that could possibly strike the United States of America in the not-too-distant future,” he said in a press call Tuesday.

Alford’s district covers Whiteman Air Force Base in western Missouri’s Knob Noster and Ft. Leonard Wood in southern Missouri’s Waynesville.
