Missouri State Rep. Ray Reed, D-St. Louis, is sponsoring a bipartisan effort to expand property tax exemptions for veterans with 100% service‑connected disabilities.

“If you are 100% service-connected disabled veteran or former prisoner of war, your homestead should be exempt from property taxes,” said Reed. “And if you pass away, your surviving spouse shouldn’t lose the stability you fought to provide for them.”

Reed said the bill is about dignity.

“It’s about letting veterans remain in the homes they’ve built in the communities they love without fear of being taxed out of them,” he said.

Bipartisan support extends to the Senate as well, with Sen. Jill Carter, R‑Granby, signing on.
