A new Missouri Senate bill says you shouldn’t be able to make artificial intelligence a spouse or a CEO.

Sen. Joe Nicola, R-Grain Valley, told Missourinet that there are already companies using AI as CEOs and even reports of people trying to marry it.

“I think it was close to 50%, maybe even a little more, of people in the United States that have had some type of intimate relation with an AI machine,” said Nicola.

The bill would also make it a felony to create or even threaten to create sexually explicit deepfakes, particularly those involving minors.

Nicola said that these are very serious crimes.

“When you take, especially a young person, and put their head on a naked body and disseminate that, this has got potential ruining lives, and it actually has,” said Nicola. “There’s been kids that have committed suicide, their reputations are ruined in school, and it’s serious.”

Nicola told Missourinet that he wants to require that any political ad created with artificial intelligence clearly say so and discussions are underway about what to do with political committees or ad creators who operate outside Missouri.

“Whether the AG would be involved in this, the Missouri Ethics Commission as well, that would be involved to send a complaint in and be investigated,” said Nicola. “So, enforcement is always an issue with just about anything, you know, to be quite honest. But we’ve got to start, we’ve got to begin this process.”
