As Missouri braces for the coming winter storm, grocery stores across the state are seeing a rush of shoppers stocking up on essentials.
And while shelves are holding up, the last few days have put added pressure on stores and suppliers.
Dan Shaul, Executive Director of the Missouri Grocers Association, told Missourinet that this week has been especially challenging.
“Milk and bread, your perishables are always going to be the first to go, but you can still get plenty of nutritious food at the grocery store, but you’re going to have to be a little less picky,” said Shaul. “Make sure you get there today if you can, and certainly I would tell you to check on those who can’t get out.”
Shaul had this message for shoppers concerned about supplies.
“Be cognizant if you can, to make sure you have supplies because things can happen anytime,” said Shaul. “But I can tell you the grocery industry is prepared for this. They’re going to do everything they can. Realize that everybody else in the aisles are doing the same thing you’re doing. They want to make sure they have food.”
Shaul said road conditions will make deliveries tougher at times, but most Missouri grocery stores get trucks several times a week and expect to keep shelves stocked as the storm moves through.
