Today recognizes the life and actions of a civil rights leader famous for his 1963 “I have a Dream” speech in Washington, D.C. That happened six years prior to his assassination.
The national holiday observes Martin Luther King, Jr., who was born on January 15, 1929. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year to be close to King’s birthday.
Most State and federal government services are closed today. Mail will not be delivered today.
Most Missouri schools are closed and so are banks. Stock markets will not be open.
Most retail and grocery stores are expected to still be open today.
Several MLK celebrations are being held in Missouri to honor King.
