Lawmakers in Jefferson City are taking aim at the Kansas City Chiefs after the team announced plans to move across the state line to Kansas. State Sen. Nick Schroer, R- St. Charles County, said it has become abundantly clear over the past several weeks that the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs don’t care much about the people of Missouri.

“What this resolution does and not only removes that designation of Kansas City Chiefs as Missouri’s football team by making this law and recognizing that these St. Louis Battle Hawks are indeed Missouri’s official football team,” said Schroer.

Schroer said the St. Louis Battlehawks are very passionate and giving back to their communities.

Along with Schroer’s proposal, State Sen. Rick Brattin, R-Harrisonville, wants the Chiefs to help pay for Arrowhead’s demolition costs based on how long they’ve called it home.

The Chiefs officially announced on Dec. 22, 2025, that they’ll be leaving Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri for a brand‑new domed stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas, set to open for the 2031 season.

Kansas lawmakers have agreed to issue STAR bonds—backed by sales and liquor taxes in the area—that will cover up to 60% (nearly $1.8 billion) of the roughly $3 billion stadium cost, with the team picking up the rest.
