President Donald Trump criticized U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Missouri, after Hawley joined four other Republicans in voting for a Senate resolution to limit Trump’s ability to launch further attacks on Venezuela.
Trump posted on Truth Social that Hawley and the others “should never be elected to office again,” calling the vote to invoke the War Powers Act a threat to national security.
The measure passed 52-47 but is unlikely to become law because Trump will need to sign it if it clears the GOP-controlled House.
Hawley defended his vote in an interview with Missourinet, saying Congress should weigh in if a president decides to put troops on the ground in Venezuela.
