Five people were killed and 87 others injured in 187 traffic crashes during Missouri’s 2026 New Year’s holiday counting period, according to preliminary data from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Troopers also made 112 arrests for driving while intoxicated. No boating crashes or drownings were reported.

The counting period began at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2025, and ended at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2026.

For comparison, during last year’s holiday period, Missouri recorded one traffic fatality and 118 injuries in 264 crashes.

The Highway Patrol notes these numbers are preliminary and could change if late deaths occur or other agencies report crashes after this release.
