(Undated) — Dozens of Missouri State Parks, conservation areas, and historical sites will host First Day hikes Thursday, January 1, 2026. Sarah S. Jones of the Missouri State Museum will be leading an urban hike, showcasing art, architecture, landscaping and history at the Missouri State Capitol Complex. She says the First Day hike tradition is a way to shake off the inactivity of the holidays and discover a sense of community with others who want to celebrate a new year outdoors. She says attendance is weather dependent. She says while very cold weather will keep some away, others are determined to take part, no matter the weather. Locations and times vary, more details can be found on the Missouri State Parks website.
