A new statewide study shows golf is more than a pastime in Missouri, it’s a major economic engine.
According to research from Buffalo Groupe, golf produced $2.1 billion in total economic impact in 2023, including nearly $1.4 billion in direct output, supporting over 21,700 jobs and contributing about $250 million in state and local tax revenue.
Governor Mike Kehoe praised the findings, saying golf strengthens small businesses, boosts tourism, and contributes to the state’s growing economy. The study also shows the sport’s economic impact has grown nearly 25% since 2010.
Golf participation continues to climb. Players logged an estimated 9.7 million rounds in 2023, up 39% from 2019, thanks in part to more than 315 golf facilities statewide, with most open to the public. Missouri also exceeds the national average for nine-hole or shorter courses, keeping the game flexible and accessible.
Other highlights include over 100,000 avid golfers, strong participation in Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield, Branson, Lake of the Ozarks and Poplar Bluff, and $232 million in direct tourism spending tied to golf.
