Gov. Mike Kehoe and First Lady Claudia Kehoe are inviting families to the Missouri Governor’s Mansion this Friday at 6:00p.m. for their first tree lighting ceremony and Candlelight Tours.
Shari Childs, Executive Director of the Missouri Governor’s Mansion, told Missourinet that visitors will walk through the first floor and see this year’s theme— “Saint Nicholas: A Season of Giving.’”
“You’ll see that reflected in our decorations with oranges that have cloves in them,” said Childs. “You’ll smell that when you walk in. We did heavy velvet to represent the robe that Saint Nicholas would have worn. Very ornate golds and Reds and greens. It’ll be very cozy.”
Childs said visitors will see the 36-foot Christmas tree on the Mansion lawn and 10 Norway spruce trees lining the brick walkway.
“The trees come from Pea Ridge in Rolla, and we’ve worked with them for several years and they are wonderful,” said Childs. “So, they gave us these really beautiful spruce trees that lined the walkway and our new tree. I can’t wait for everybody to see it and hope that they get that Rockefeller Center feel.”
Childs said Gov. Kehoe and the First Lady will be on hand Friday night to greet kids.
“Everyone will come in,” said Childs. “All the kids will get a little small treat from the governor and the first lady, but they’ll get to take in all of the decorations, meet the governor and the first lady and we do have Living Windows downtown as well. So, you could come to the mansion and then just head to downtown Jefferson City.”
Childs also thanked Silver Dollar City for their help in decorating the Governor’s Mansion.
“They spend a week of their time here at the Mansion making things beautiful,” said Childs. “Kelly Eutsler (Visual Director), Karen McCaulley and Carrie Duvall. They deserve a lot of credit.”
