A bill pre-filed for the 2026 legislative session could reshape oversight of high school sports and activities in Missouri.
SB 863, sponsored by Sen. Jason Bean, R-Holcomb, would require the governor to appoint a five-member board to supervise statewide school activity associations.
Some supporters say the move is about increasing accountability for organizations that manage interscholastic sports and programs.
The proposal follows an investigation by Missouri’s Attorney General into MSHSAA over allegations of race and sex discrimination in its board selection process.
If the bill passes, the new oversight structure would take effect August 28, 2026.
Lawmakers return to Jefferson City on January 7 for the next legislative session.
