The Kansas City Chiefs fell 22–19 in Denver, dropping to 5–5 and continuing a season-long struggle in close games. Patrick Mahomes accounted for Kansas City’s biggest offensive moments, including a 21-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce that briefly gave the Chiefs a fourth-quarter lead. Kelce’s score was the 84th of his career, moving him past Priest Holmes for the most touchdowns in franchise history. Kansas City also found explosive yards in the passing game, highlighted by a 61-yard strike to Tyquan Thornton that set up a Kareem Hunt touchdown run.

Special teams played a significant role in the final margin. After Kelce’s score, Denver blocked Harrison Butker’s extra-point attempt, keeping Kansas City’s advantage at three points. Butker later connected on field goals from 40 and 47 yards, but Kansas City could not extend drives late. The Chiefs finished with just one offensive touchdown and were unable to convert key third-down situations, leading to several short possessions in the second half.

Defensively, the Chiefs limited Denver to one touchdown drive until the final three minutes, but the unit was unable to get a stop on the Broncos’ closing 10-play, 58-yard march that set up the deciding field goal. Kansas City allowed a pair of long completions on Denver’s final two scoring drives, including a 32-yard gain that moved the Broncos into the red zone in the final minute. The loss extended Kansas City’s winless record in one-score games to 0–5 this season. The Chiefs now face an uphill climb in the AFC West, where they have won nine straight division titles.
