It’s a sight and sound that signals the season in Missouri — the Salvation Army’s Red Kettles are back.

Magen Hudson, Director of the Salvation Army Center in Pettis County, told Missourinet that the campaign is more than just a holiday tradition, it’s a lifeline for neighbors in need.

“This Christmas is going to be critical,” said Hudson. “There’s been a lot of changes economically, you know, even a handful of change can create change. So, kind of, you know, reach in your heart, in your pocketbooks if you’re able and just come together and make this happen for families that need it.”

Hudson told Missourinet that the campaign does more than just make Christmas brighter for Missouri families in need it helps them all year long.

“Assisting with utility bills, water deposits, gas shutoffs, we also assist with gasoline for out-of-town medical appointments,” said Hudson. “The need is there and there’s different programs at different Salvation Armies. Many are similar, where they’re providing food and essential services, hygiene supplies.”

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers across the state to help with their Red Kettle campaign.

Hudson said they have plenty of spots to fill.

“And this is for the whole state of Missouri,” said Hudson. “You can check out, you know if you want to ring in Columbia, Jeff City, Sedalia. It’ll show you the locations and available dates and time. We sign people up for as little as one hour.”
