Missouri Supreme Court Judge Mary Russell has received the Sandra Day O’Connor Award, the highest honor from the National Judicial College.

Russell, who has twice served as Chief Justice, was recognized for her leadership and commitment to civics education, including visiting all 46 judicial circuits and writing monthly columns to explain court processes.

She also created interactive programs like You Be the Judge” to help Missourians understand the challenges judges face and the importance of clear laws.

Judge Russell’s efforts go beyond the courtroom.

She has worked to build bridges between the three branches of state government and championed technology upgrades that made Missouri a leader in electronic filing and virtual court access.

The award was presented November 13 during the Appellate Judges Education Institute Summit in Minnesota.
