(Warrensburg, Mo.) — Two people are dead after an off-base, off-duty shooting involving an Airman assigned to Whiteman Air Force Base Wednesday morning in west-central Missouri’s Warrensburg.

When officers responded to a domestic disturbance, they found a suspect armed with a weapon and running on foot. The person fired their weapon multiple times in the direction of officers.

A news release says a bystander attempted to intervene prior to officers arriving. Tony Barron, an unrelated and unarmed neighbor in the area, was shot and killed by the suspect. Barron was a U.S. Army veteran.

The Warrensburg Police Department set up a perimeter. Local schools and businesses were told to lockdown.

A woman involved was treated for injuries and released.

The suspect, Senior Airman Glyzua Ingram, was later found dead with what the police department says appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The person was found near the initial scene of the disturbance.

The base says the Warrensburg Police Department is investigating the shooting. The 509th Bomb Wing says it is fully cooperating with the police department.
