(St. Louis, MO)  —  Missourians flying in or out of St. Louis should not expect major delays or cancellations despite the federal government shutdown, according to St. Louis Lambert Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge.  She notes, however, travelers could encounter issues with their connecting flights at other airports served by St. Louis.

Neither Lambert nor Kansas City International are on the list of airports reportedly expecting incremental cutbacks of flights starting Friday, November 7th. It’s been widely reported that the FAA plans to cut flights by 10% at 40 major airports to address staffing shortages caused by the ongoing government shutdown.  The list of affected airports includes major hubs like Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, Los Angeles International, and Chicago O’Hare.

Hamm-Niebruegge says since carriers in St. Louis serve the other airports, travel snafus are possible depending on the final destination.  She says airlines may or may not have a lot of flexibility and passengers will have to be patient.

Hamm-Niebruegge says STL air traffic controllers and TSA security screeners continue to come to work despite not being paid during the government shutdown.  She reminds passengers to be mindful of that, and express their appreciation.

Neither STL or KC airports are reporting major delays or cancellations and no issues with parking availability.
