(WASHINGTON D.C.) — Missouri U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley has introduced a bill which would use billions of dollars in tariff revenue for direct payments to farmers and ranchers. Hawley said his bill (The Support Our Farmers and Ranchers Act of 2025) would okay $20 billion to support a one-time payment within the next 90 days to qualifying producers of all commodities, livestock, and poultry.
In a news release, Hawley said it would be similar to payments to farmers during President Trump’s first term in the White House. Hawley said the bill is needed to support producers dealing with several years of rising input costs and low profits.
President Trump has indicated he supports the idea. His administration has been working on a similar aid package ($10 to $15 billion) to address financial struggles in the ag sector.
