Missouri’s Young Republicans chapter is condemning their counterparts in Kansas for making “abhorrent and disgraceful” comments during private online chats.
An article published this week by Politico says leaders and several members of the Kansas Young Republicans made racist, sexist, and antisemitic comments in a series of encrypted online chats with other Young Republicans in New York, Vermont, and Arizona. It also states that one of the Kansas Young Republican leaders praised Missouri Young Republicans because their party leaders, “didn’t like LGBTQ-plus people.”
Missouri Young Republicans is hitting back. In a statement posted to Facebook, the group said it’s “outraged” and calls the comments from the Kansas group chats “abhorrent and disgraceful.”
The group did not directly respond to Missourinet’s question about Missouri Republicans not liking LGBTQ-plus people, only saying they “reaffirm and stand by” their original statement.
The Missouri Young Republican chapter is also calling for the “immediate resignation” of everyone who took part in or condoned the group chat. One of the participants was fired from a communications job with the Kansas Attorney General’s office when word of the Politico article became known.
Meanwhile, Vice President J.D. Vance is downplaying the controversy. During an appearance on “The Charlie Kirk Show” podcast, he described the comments as stupid jokes made by kids, and that their lives should not be ruined over it. But Kansas State Senator and Democratic candidate for governor Cindy Holscher is quoted by the Kansas Reflector as saying many of the Kansas Young Republicans that took part in the group chats “were 20- and 30-something adults with leadership roles in the Republican Party.”
