Missouri is now less than three months away from legalized sports betting. Jan Zimmerman, chair of the Missouri Gaming Commission, told Missourinet that preparations are going well.

“We’ve had obviously a significant number of applications and those are to, you know, both the big names that you’ve probably heard of like BetMGM and Underdog (Fantasy) Sports,” she said.

Starting December 1st, Missourians will be able to legally place bets on sporting events without leaving the state. Sports wagering will be allowed at Missouri’s casinos and on mobile devices through DraftKings and Circa Sports. Zimmerman said FanDuel, which lost out on the state’s two untethered licenses, is expected to team up with a “brick and mortar” location.

“They have the opportunity, you know, to still partner with sports teams or casinos here in the state of Missouri,” she said. “I am confident that, you know, we will see a lot of FanDuel here in Missouri.”

The Missouri Gaming Commission has received more than 450 applications for sports betting licenses so far. Zimmerman said all licenses will be awarded simultaneously sometime before December 1st.

Aside from betting on which teams win or lose games, there will be lots of other types of wagers, known as prop bets.

“All of the presenters, when we were looking at the untethered applications, have said that their platforms allow, you know, real time betting,” Zimmerman said. “If you’re betting on something that’s going to happen, the next play of the game, then you know, obviously that real time information is critical.”

Missouri voters narrowly approved sports betting last November. A portion of revenues generated will go towards the state’s compulsive gambling fund and toward education – both K-12 and higher education.
