All available troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol will be monitoring the Show-Me State’s roadways and waterways this 4th of July holiday weekend.

Lieutenant Eric Brown told Missourinet that drivers will notice an increased presence of state troopers on the more traveled roadways.

“Whether that be an Interstate or, you know, you look in Central Missouri, you know there’ll be a lot of activity on the 54 highway as a lot of people heading to lake of the Ozarks, 65 highway for people heading towards the southwest corner of the state,” said Brown.”During those peak times, we’re going to have a visibility to reduce the number of issues and the overnight hours, you’ll see an increased presence in areas.”

Brown said troopers will put a focus on hazardous moving violations.

“Those violations are going to be excessive speed, aggressive lane changes, following too close,” said Brown. “Any indicators of an impaired driver as our troopers work to make this a holiday weekend safer, more enjoyable for everybody. And you look at the 2024 counting period, which is actually one day longer last year than it will be this year. But we had 14 people killed and 560 injured.”

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Fourth of July holiday counting period starts on Thursday night at 6:00 and ends Sunday night at 11:59 p.m.
