Fort Leonard Wood will be celebrating Independence Day with thousands of its closest friends.

Marketing manager Nia Dickinson told Missourinet the southern Missouri Army base’s annual celebration is a big hit in the community.
“Fourth of July on Fort Leonard Wood is huge. Every year, it’s the biggest event that we have,” she said.
A patriotic color run will kick off at 9 a.m. Early registration is $15 and $20 the day of.
The main celebration begins at 4 p.m. The bash will include military demonstrations and equipment displays, bounce houses, slides, games, a petting zoo, pony rides, the KC Disc Dogs, and of course, fireworks.
“Everyone loves the big fireworks show at the end,” she said. “We hear time and time again that it’s one of the best and largest shows in the area.”
The fireworks show is set for 9:30 p.m.
Dickinson said there will also be a car show.

“You walk by and everyone’s just checking them out. They all look great and they’re the kinds that you’re driving down Route 66 checking out and really throwing back,” she said.
Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
A REAL ID or additional paperwork is required to gain access to the base.
