It will be take-two for a multi-million-dollar bond question from a central Missouri school district.
Seventy-five percent of voters in the Hallsville School District supported the $6.5 million bond issue when it passed on the April ballot, however, it was not certified by the state auditor.
Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick said the results weren’t officially submitted, and the Boone County Clerk’s office may have failed to meet legal publication requirements.
The Hallsville School District is located in State Representative John Martin’s district of Boone County. Martin told Missourinet he met with Fitzpatrick about the issue last week.
“The auditor, he said, hey, superintendents, more than welcome to call him directly and talk with him,” said Martin. “I encouraged the Superintendent at Hallsville schools, Dr. Walker, to do that. Whether he did or not, I don’t think so because I think, you know, that they went ahead, realized the decision had been made based on the auditor’s decision, the next step obviously has to get it back on the ballot. And if the Hallsville schools think that the November ballot is their best opportunity to get it passed again. Obviously, their goal will be passing, I definitely support that.”
Martin said the Hallsville Board of Education met this week.
“I think they met Monday and moving ahead with going and put it back on the ballot. I’m not going to say I advised that. I just say based on the auditor’s decision; the next step obviously has to get it back on the ballot.”
The Hallsville School District issued the following statement through an email to Missourinet.
During the board meeting Monday night, the board did not take an official vote, however they do plan to move forward with pre-construction and design and preparing to place the bond on the ballot in November.
The bond will for us on the same district priorities as in April. You can read more on the safety and facility improvements here:

According to previous reporting from Missourinet if the voters approve the bond again the money would be used for parking, classrooms, athletic fields, and security upgrades.
