(WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, MO)   —  Missouri’s Whiteman Air Force base is awaiting possible word that some of its specialized aircraft could be sent to Iran to target an underground nuclear power plant.

Whiteman Air Force base in western Missouri is the home of the B-2 stealth bombers.  A statement to Missourinet from the base indicates the airmen are ready to respond if they get the call from the White House, and that maintaining readiness every minute of every day is job one for the command.

Each B-2 stealth bomber can carry two 30-thousand-pound, bunker buster bombs, which could be used to target Iran’s Fordow, underground nuclear power plant.  Recently the U.S. military has repositioned refueling aircraft to the middle east, in the event the B-2 is sent there.  The craft has the capability of long round-trip flights, as long as its refueled in the air.

Israel has targeted and damaged the nuclear facility, 120-miles south of Tehran.  The facility is located 300 feet underground.  There are multiple reports, however, that it would take the B-2’s bunker buster bombs to put the plant out of commission.
