A list of names found in possession of the man suspected of murdering a Minnesota state lawmaker contains the name of Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver.
It’s not known for certain if Cleaver, a Democrat from Kansas City, was being specifically targeted by Vance Boelter, 57. Boelter is accused of gunning down Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman, DFL-Brooklyn Park, and her husband, Mike, in their home near Minneapolis. Hortman was the top Democratic Farm Labor Party lawmaker in the Minnesota House and had served as House Speaker until January.
Cleaver said in a statement that his office is “coordinating with local law enforcement” to make sure he and his family are safe.
Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman, DFL-Champlin, and his wife, Yvette, were also shot in their home but are recovering.
