Missouri’s Ed Martin still has a place in the Trump Administration after his nomination for U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia was pulled.

President Trump has now picked the former Missouri politician to lead the newly-created Weaponization Working Group within the U.S. Justice Department. A document from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said the group will investigate incidents of Justice Department employee engaging in so-called “political” prosecutions during the Biden Administration. He will also work as a pardon attorney for the Deputy Attorney General’s office.

Martin had been serving as U.S. Attorney on an interim basis. The switch happened Thursday after it became evident that a key Republican on the U.S. Senate Judiciary committee said he would not vote to confirm Martin.

In his place, Trump has nominated Jeanine Pirro to be U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. She’s a former county prosecutor and judge from the state of New York, but she’s best known as a contributor and co-host on Fox News.

Martin formerly worked as Chief of Staff for Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt, chaired the Missouri Republican Party, and made unsuccessful bids for Congress and for Missouri Attorney General.
