The Women’s, Infant, and Children’s Program (WIC) is out with a new card to help Missouri participants better access their food benefits.
The state has more than 95,000 low-income participants in the WIC food assistance program. WIC also provides quality nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, nutritious foods and referrals to health services.
Anne Strope, administrative coordinator with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, told Missourinet the new card allows participants to track their food benefits in real time.
“The new WIC card can eliminate visits to the WIC clinic solely for food benefit issuance,” she said.
Participants can track these benefits by contacting their local WIC agency or by using the WICShopper app.
Strope said another advantage of the new card is it is intended to help WIC retailers better serve participants.
“Missouri WIC now processes the transactions in real time to pay the authorized retailers daily reimbursements,” said Strope.
She said the new card also allows an easier process for local WIC agencies to issue, substitute or change food benefits during the month, providing more flexibility to meet the needs of participants.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has more information on the WIC program and use of the new card on its YouTube channel.
