A state lawmaker from southwest Missouri is joining the Trump Administration.

State Rep. Ben Baker, R-Neosho, has been chosen by President Donald Trump to become the Director of the USDA’s Rural Development office for Missouri. The office provides loans, grants, and other economic development tools to rural communities across the state.

Baker said on Facebook that he has left the Missouri House and begins his new job Monday.

In a USDA news release, Baker is said to be, “living a life grounded in faith, family, and a relentless drive to serve his community.” It also said the new directors will focus on finding ways to empower rural America and unleash economic prosperity.
