A new state-of-the-art beef processing plant is expected to open Thursday in eastern Missouri’s Warren County.

America’s Heartland Packing is poised to get down to business in its $800 million mixed cattle plant. The 500,000 square foot site will employ about 1,300 workers – bringing an anticipated $1 billion in annual economic impact to the state.

Missouri Agriculture Director Chris Chinn told Brownfield Ag News the company plans to process 2,400 head of cattle each day, once fully operational.

“I think their plan, when they get completely up and going, is to do about 1,200 head a day of cull cattle. That’s going to be cull cows, cull bulls, and then the other 1,200 will be finished cattle as well,” said Chinn.

Chinn said the site adds value to cattle.

“When you look at cattle prices right now, you know it’s very tempting for families to be able to hold onto those cattle and really capture the true value when it comes time to ship them,” said Chinn.

According to Chinn, Missouri’s cattle producers can work directly with America’s Heartland Packing to sell cattle and the company is also going to Missouri sale barns to buy cattle.

The plant is located along Interstate 70 in Wright City.
