A Blizzard Warning is in effect for the Kansas City area and most of northwestern Missouri, starting at 9:00 p.m. and lasting through 5:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Snow accumulations are only expected to be up to three inches – however, high winds are expected to cause whiteout conditions and wind gusts near hurricane strength are possible. In addition to Kansas City, the Blizzard Warning includes St. Joseph, Rock Port, Grant City, Plattsburg, Maryville, and Bethany.

Strong winds, meanwhile, are blowing across the entire state of Missouri. A Wind Advisory is in effect until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday for most of the state, from the Iowa border to Arkansas and from the Mississippi River to Kansas. Steady winds between 20 and 30 miles an hour are expected, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

There’s also a High Wind Warning for one area of Missouri stretching from Harrisonville, through Warrensburg, Carrollton, Chillicothe, and up into Iowa. Steady winds from 30 to 40 miles per hour are forecast with gusts up to 70 miles per hour.

A Winter Weather Advisory has also been issued for portions of southwestern and central Missouri from 3:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Wednesday. Cities include Joplin, Springfield, Lebanon, Bolivar, Versailles, Fort Leonard Wood, and Osage Beach. Up to 1.5 inches of snow are possible.
