As National FFA week officially comes to a close, Missouri’s governor, who is a first-generation farmer, touts the importance of one of Missouri’s leading industries – agriculture.
“Agriculture is near and dear to my heart and our state’s leading economic driver,” Gov. Mike Kehoe said. “As first-generation farmers, Claudia and I are proud to support Missouri FFA members and recognize National FFA Week. These students will take Missouri’s agriculture industry to new heights, and I am excited about what they will accomplish in the future.”
Missouri has a strong history in FFA. The National Future Farmers of America Organization was founded in 1928 by 33 young men in Kansas City. Missouri is now home to 362 chapters and more than 26,000 FFA members, ranking eighth nationally for membership.
Kehoe and Missouri Department of Agriculture Director Chris Chinn both drove tractors to the State Capitol on Feb. 10th as part a commemoration ceremony for the Show-Me State celebrating National FFA Week.

“FFA is an amazing organization that not only teaches kids about where their food comes from and all the different career opportunities that there are available in agriculture, but it also teaches skills that they’re going to need, no matter what their career choice is moving forward,” Chinn told Missourinet. “Interview skills, how to shake someone’s hand, how to look people in the eye when you talk to them, how to have a police debate without being rude or offensive to the people that you’re talking with. These are all skills that we all are going to need when we’re these kids age moving forward in life.”
