Next month, the current adjutant general of the Missouri National Guard will move to Europe and move up in rank. Maj. Gen. Levon Cumpton will become the U.S. Army Europe and Africa’s Chief of Staff and Deputy Commanding General for the U.S. Army National Guard.
“Headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany, helping bring our Army together to accomplish our intent across the continent of Europe and Africa,” he told Missourinet. “I’m just so honored and humbled to be able to go do it.”
His duties will include providing direction and oversight for the Army National Guard units stationed in Europe and Africa.
“What we’ve accomplished over these last five and a half years is amazing,” Cumpton said. “Coming in and supporting the state with response to COVID, civil unrest, to continuing to ensure we have prepared and ready troops, soldiers, and airmen to serve our nation.”
His new position begins next month. He has served as the state’s top military officer since August of 2019.
Gov. Mike Kehoe has chosen Brigadier Gen. Charles Hausman to be the next commander.
