Inauguration Day is Monday for President-Elect Donald Trump. Southwest Missouri Congressman Eric Burlison anticipates Trump to quickly address the nation’s immigration problems along the southern border.
“A lot of the anxiety and frustration about the border will be resolve quickly through executive order,” said Burlison. “And then I think that you’ll see a follow-up very quickly with a reconciliation bill that includes language to fix the border.”
Burlison, a Republican from Springfield, expects the GOP to get most of its immigration policy goals accomplished.
“I think you’ll see a comprehensive list of things, so the border wall construction is going to begin again. The Remain in Mexico policy will be initiated,” said Burlison. “I think Trump is also going to, as he said, he’s demanding that Canada and Mexico help us further in our efforts to secure the border.”
Under the “Remain in Mexico” plan, migrants seeking asylum would be required to remain in Mexico until their U.S. immigration court date.
