Pete Hegseth, President-elect Trump’s choice for Secretary of Defense, got a warm welcome from Republicans on the Senate Armed Services committee Tuesday, including Missouri’s Eric Schmitt. The junior senator wants Hegseth to work towards returning ex-military members to active service who were kicked out for refusing to take the COVID vaccine.

“Will you commit today, Mr. Hegseth, to recruit these folks back, to give them back pay and give them an apology from the United States Government for how they were disrespected?” Schmitt asked. “Senator, I will commit to this because the Commander in Chief has committed to this,” Hegseth replied.

Schmitt also praised Pete Hegseth during the confirmation hearing, saying that Hegseth is the right person to root out so-called “far-left” and “woke” ideology from the U.S. military.

“Thank you for your clarity in articulating the vision you have for the Department of Defense in restoring an ethos, a warrior ethos, which is in stark contrast to the ethos we’ve seen the last four years, which is of weakness and wokeness,” Schmitt said.

Democrats on the Armed Services Committee blasted Hegseth, saying he is both under-qualified and unfit to serve as Defense Secretary. They cited a lack of executive-level experience along with allegations of sexual assault and drunken behavior in public.
