Mike Kehoe has been sworn in as Missouri’s 58th governor, and he hopes to hit the ground running on day one focusing on public safety. The theme of his address, “Securing Missouri’s Future,” spoke to Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, who was in attendance for Kehoe’s inauguration.

Mayor Lucas told Missourinet that he’s looking forward to working with the Kehoe Administration.

“We want to work with Jefferson City,” he said. “We want to work with the governor, to try to do so. If what he said today is how he governs, then I think we can accomplish almost anything, including building a safer Kansas City and a safer Missouri long term.”

Mayor Lucas said that he continues to support the police in his city and across the Show-Me State.

“I think that all of us have an interest in that. I talked to the other major city mayors in this state all the time,” Lucas said. “When I talk to Tishaura Jones (in St. Louis) or Barbara Buffaloe in Columbia or anyone, they say they want to make sure they can recruit officers, that their officers will be safe, and that their communities will be safe. There is nobody in this state, a Democrat, nobody, who wants violent crime to rise in Missouri.”

Kehoe said that his administration will work to “make Missouri a place where it’s easier to be a cop than a criminal.”
