A new chapter of leadership has unfolded in Missouri. The main character is the state’s 58th governor, Republican Mike Kehoe.
As hundreds of people watched and braved the cold temperatures, the former lieutenant governor took the oath of office today at the Missouri Capitol.
“I will always remember and honor the solemn oath I just took,” he said. “Growing up, no one would have looked at me and said, ‘One day, that kid is going to be sworn in by Senator Roy Blunt as the 58th Governor of Missouri.’ I will never forget where I came from—the sixth child of Lorraine Kehoe, a single mom, who often struggled to raise her family in North St. Louis City.”
Kehoe said today is a win for single mothers, like Lorraine Kehoe.
The theme of his address was “Securing Missouri’s Future” by focusing on public safety, education, stable jobs, as well as reducing taxes and regulations.
“All of us want to feel safe in our homes and in our neighborhoods. We want our kids to get a quality education. We want to work hard to support our families. Achieving these things—that’s how we secure Missouri’s future. Securing Missouri’s future begins with public safety,” said Kehoe.
Kehoe said his administration will be “relentless in our pursuit to make Missouri a place where it’s easier to be a cop than a criminal.”
“Too many Missourians don’t feel safe—and too many Missourians aren’t safe. When people are afraid for their lives and for their families, they cannot be productive, and they will not prosper,” he said.
His swearing-in ceremony included a 19-gun salute, a flyover by fighter jets from Whiteman Air Force Base, and the singing of the National Anthem.
Today’s inauguration also included the swearing-in ceremonies for Missouri Lt. Governor David Wasinger, Secretary of State Denny Hoskins, State Treasurer Vivek Malek, and Attorney General Andrew Bailey.
