How much snow did Missouri get from the latest snowstorm to hit the Show-Me State? The Missouri Department of Transportation State Maintenance Director Darren Hamelink said it was more than anticipated.
“At one point this morning, we had all of our major routes covered across the entire state,” Hamelink told Missourinet. “We’ve made good progress on our majors. You’re seeing some black pavement in a lot of areas, so that’s good. Although we still have covered roads down in the southeast district, essentially, kind of down in the bootheel area, if you will, where they got the most snow.”
Even though most major roads and highways are in better condition than they were this morning, drive with caution if you plan on doing so tonight.
“One thing drivers need to watch for is when the sun drops tonight, it gets dark, we are going to have some refreeze,” said Hamelink. “So, there’s some areas where we’ve plowed, and it’s piled up. We’ve kind of run out of places to push it. If it’s melting now, and then run it across the road, it will refreeze.”
