State Parks all over Missouri are providing an opportunity to start the new year on the right foot. On January 1st, you can participate in a nationwide movement called “First Day Hikes.”

“I think we’ve got around 25 parks (participating) throughout the state,” said information officer Tisha Holden. “There’s more hikes that are scheduled. Some parks have more than one hike, but we’ve got several hikes available. They range from short hikes, less than a mile, to longer hikes.”

Registration is required, but there is no charge.

“America’s State Parks, the organization that is in charge of it likes to keep track of how many people actually participates,” she said. “So, that kind of helps us track everyone, too. There are some hikes that we do have a limited number of people that we can take on a hike.”

State parks that are hosting First Day Hikes include Bennett Springs in Lebanon, Crowder in Trenton, Cuivre River in Troy, Rock Bridge in Columbia, Table Rock in Branson, Lake of the Ozarks in Osage Beach, and Roaring River in Cassville.
