Two high-profile inmates will be spending the holidays outside of prison walls.

Gov. Mike Parson has commuted the prison sentences today for ex-KCPD detective Eric DeValkenaere and Patty Prewitt.

DeValkenaere has been in jail since October 2023. He was convicted of the 2019 shooting death of Cameron Lamb. He was convicted of second-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.

Police went to Lamb’s home after reports that he had been speeding after another vehicle. Lamb was shot to death as he backed his truck into his garage.

Prosecutors say Lamb was not armed at the time of the shooting.

Prewitt was serving a 50-year sentence without parole for the 1984 death of her husband in Holden.

She is the longest-serving female prisoner in Missouri.

Bill Prewitt was shot and killed in his sleep. Patty said she was also attacked that night.

Prewitt, 75, has maintained her innocence.
